The DMMMSU Team UBE-Tech, led by Engr. Raffy Espiritu (NLUC Professor), bagged the top plum in the inaugural demo of Pinoy-made innovations tilt held on May 27, 2017 at the Department of Trade and Industry's QBO Innovation Hub in Makati City. It beat senior and junior innovators from 11 other academic and research institutions across the country, that included 2 teams from De La Salle University and another team from DOST.
The panel of judges were distinguished scientists and Japanese businessmen.
DMMMSU presented a new powdering technology for ube, which is dubbed as the "matcha" of the Philippines which allows farmers to use lightly pigmented ube for commercial use. This DMMMSU technology may also help promote ube as an alternative and more lucrative crop for Filipino farmers.
This award-winning DMMMSU technology received a cash grant of 200,000 Japanese yen (or about P90,000.00) and a guaranteed slot in the upcoming international innovation demo day in Singapore.
This innovations demo tilt in the Philippines is presented by "Leave a Nest Co., Ltd.," an organization that aims to promote and enhance everyday life through science and education.
Congratulations to the team and to DMMMSU for another prestigious national R&D accolade!
