June 15, 2021 – DMMMSU Mathematics teachers participated in two lecture sessions on the seventh day of their training on Technology in Teaching Advanced Mathematics, Research, Development of Instructional Materials, and Data Science. Originally, the training will run for seven days but due to some schedule changes, the training is extended for another day.

Day 7 of the training opened with the lecture session on Data Science by Prof. Eugenio Cedric T. Corro. Prof. Corro was a lecturer in the University of Santo Tomas and he holds a Master of Science in Data Science. He introduced the importance of data science in different companies and how data science functions in general in the community. He also introduced Python, a programming language which is powerful, fast, user-friendly, and easy to learn. Further, it is an open-source software. It uses Jupyter open-source Integrated Development Environment (IDE).

The lecturer in the afternoon is Prof. Corazon Regacho, a former professor of DMMMSU and an assistant professor of Mathematics in the University of Santo Tomas. Prof. Regacho talked about Linear Programming and Operations Research. She introduced several Linear Programming problems and demonstrated the use of QM Solver to solve such problems. She also presented several examples of problems under Operations Research such as Transportation Problem, Project Management (PERT/CPM), Inventory Problems, and Markov Analysis. She also showed how to prepare the model and how to input it into the QM Solver. #
