DMMMSU employees and residents of Barangay Sapilang are expected to experience some inconvenience as the construction of farm to market road (FMR) has started. The road construction in Sapilang which costs Php 22, 669, 175.21 is expected to be completed in November this year.
This construction in Sapilang is part of the 37.5M FMR project subsidized from the GAA Funds of the Department of Agriculture. This FMR project will also cover the stretches of Barangay Sapilang, Casiaman, Salincob, and Say-oan, Bacnotan, La Union.
In an interview, President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. explained that planning work is already being carried out for the road that will provide for and improve transport link between Barangay Say-oan and Cabaroan, Bacnotan. “A note seeking the approval of Dr. William D. Dar, Secretary of Agriculture, for the allocation of additional 25M pesos to fully repair the road from Sapilang to the National Highway has already been made.” The 25M additional fund will cover the 1km road portion located at Barangay Say-oan and Cabaraon which is not covered by the 37.5M-budget.
“I am thankful for the immense support of Secretary Dar of DMMMSU. This FMR project which I requested and which Sec. Dar immediately approved is a symbol of a strong partnership which DMMMSU and DA have forged. Since I became the President of DMMMSU, Sec. Dar has been continuously extending us support through his financing packages,” President Manuel continued.
“I also wish to extend my thanks to Director Lucrecio R. Alviar, Jr., former Regional Executive Director of DA-RO 1, and Director Nestor D. Domenden, OIC RED of DA-RO 1, for endorsing our requests to Sec. Dar.”
“I do not only think of the welfare of DMMMSU employees. Better roads linking remote communities to the highway will help provide the much-needed economic boost for the households and communities surrounding DMMMSU,” the former Sangguniang Bayan Member of Bacnotan, now DMMMSU Executive, remarked.
