After their successful conduct of CHED sponsored seaweed hand soap project worth Php 948, 785. 05, the project team led by Prof. Karen A. Ballada, NLUC Head for Extension, distributed around 30,000 pieces of Seabon hand soap to DMMMSU students, faculty members and staff, and LGU’s of La Union, Pangasinan, and Ilocos Sur in May this year.

In a previous interview, Prof. Ballada mentioned that Prof. Arnulfo Junio, Prof. Richard Rivera, Prof. Alin Sherick Sabiano, Prof. Donna Perol and all DMMMSU-NLUC-FRTI staff composed her team in distributing the goods.

“Packing of some more bars is ongoing. We plan to distribute 106, 000 pieces these coming months,” she added.

To date, Women Aquatic Processing Association (WAPA) based in Paraoir, Balaoan; and La Union Vibrant Women’s Incorporated (LUVWI) have started adopting Seabon Technology to help provide livelihood for their members. Other organizations have also expressed their plans to commercialize seaweed soap in a greater scale.

Seabon, a seaweed hand soap, is made of seaweed, papaya extracts, coconut oil, and essential scented oils. (Ayu)
