DMMMSU-NLUC-FRTI has sealed research collaboration with Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center (BFAR-NFFTC), Science City of Munoz, Nueva Ecija. The project titled “On-Farm Trial of Improved Breeds of Improved Brackish Enhanced Selected Tilapia (iBEST) and Red Tilapia in Saline Environment” will run from August to December this year.

The research team is composed of project leaders from DMMMSU-NLUC-FRTI — Dr. Andie John D. Tadeo, Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabafunda, Prof. Ida C. Junio, and Prof. Arnold Junio, and project leaders from BFAR-NFFTC — Ms. Ma. Jodecel C. Danting (Center Chief, BFAR-NFFTC) and Ms. Milagros M. Apaga (Head of the Tilapia Broodstock Development and Production Section). The team will evaluate the performance (salinity tolerance, growth, and survival) of improved breeds of iBEST and Red Tilapia over the existing breeds in the center.
All resources such as tilapia fingerlings, nets, feeds and other materials needed in the project will be provided by BFAR-NFFTC. Monitoring such as feeding, pond maintenance, and water quality monitoring, on the other hand, will be conducted by DMMMSU-NLUC-FRTI.
