Mr. Mark Joshua L. Labarentos, General Education faculty member of DMMMSU-SLUC, was invited as a virtual resource speaker at the Entrepreneurship Workshop in Universitas PGRI Semarang (UPGRIS), Indonesia on August 16, 2021.

“When starting and planning a business, do not use influence, recognition and profit as your motivation. Instead, start and plan a business that is attached to the principles of the people who will benefit from it— the environment you want to save, and the culture you want to be proud of”, said Mr. Labarentos to participants during his talk.

The workshop was organized by the Counseling and Guidance Department of UPGRIS’ Faculty of Education. It was a response to the Independent Campus Competition (Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka/ PKKM), a nationwide program initiated by the Indonesia Ministry of Education and Culture. The said training sought to provide faculty members and students ample knowledge on entrepreneurial mindset, creativity, and entrepreneurship innovation and how to use social media data to design startups.

Mr. Labarentos is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of the Philippines- Baguio, and is currently pursuing his MA in Social and Development Studies at the same university. He has been teaching General Education subjects— including The Entrepreneurial Mind— since he was hired to teach at DMMMSU.

DMMMSU and UPGRIS have been consistently forging academic and research collaborations.  Established in 1987, UPGRIS is a private higher education institution located in the metropolis of Semarang, Central Java in Indonesia. Currently, the university has 12,000 students and over 400 lecturers.
