Prof. Lilito Gavina, Director for Planning and Development, served as the Resource Speaker during the 7th Agroforestry Webinar organized by the Institute of Agroforestry of the University of the Philippines-Los Banos (UPLB) on November 4, 2021.

Recognizing the relevance of agroforestry education in shaping agroforestry development and promotion, UPLB featured the experiences of DMMMSU considering its pioneering efforts in the offering of BS Agroforestry which started in 1976. UPLB named the webinar as “DMMMSU’s Four Decades of Agroforestry Education: Challenges and Prospects”.

Prof. Gavina, who was also the Director of the then Institute of Agroforestry and Watershed Management (now College of Agroforestry and Forestry), presented the milestones of agroforestry education in DMMMSU with emphasis on the institutional partnership, research and extension activities as well as challenges and prospects of Agroforestry education in DMMMSU.

Meanwhile, one of the alumni of BS Agroforestry Program, Ms. Sharmaine Egalla, shared her career journey, putting emphasis on the competencies and experiences that she has acquired from the BS Agroforestry program, and how these contribute to her current job at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The webinar was attended in by 100 participants representing various stakeholders such as academe, students, practitioners, and local government units. (Ayu)
