Elementary education and laboratory school faculty in the persons of Mr. Marvin V. Tandas and Mr. Alexander S. Lopez of the South La Union Campus- College of Education served as international visiting professors for Primary Teacher Education Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka or UHAMKA, a university in South Jakarta, Indonesia. The two-day virtual program happened on June 22 and 23, 2022 via Zoom and was live-streamed through the official UHAMKA social media accounts.

Speaking about “Molding the Community, Shaping the Future: The Teachers’ Roles in Nation-Building,” Mr. Tandas shared about the various roles that teachers play in bringing about positive change in society. He also entertained several questions from the participants who were interested in Mr. Tandas’ views on classroom management and the use of social media platforms for teaching.

On the second day, Mr. Lopez talked about the relationship between leadership practices and school culture and also received outstanding audience participation from the students and faculty of UHAMKA.

The Zoom-based program was jampacked as meeting participants ranged from 100 to almost 200 participants for two days. In full support of the two faculty members were their College Dean, Dr. Nona M. Rivera, CE Chairs, and the Campus Head for Internationalization and Linkages, Mr. Ronald B. Bustos.

“I feel very grateful for the opportunity to speak about my expertise and knowledge,” shared as he looks forward to more opportunities like this in the future.
