112 DMMMSU personnel whose technologies are ready for IPR protection were trained on Patent Drafting and IP Draft Critiquing at the International Convention Center, North La Union Campus on December 5-6, 2022.

Engr. Emmanuel M. Mendoza who served as the Learning Service Provider for the three-day seminar-write-shop discussed the overview of IPO and IPR registration of utility models and industrial designs, requirements for patentability, patent granting procedure, and basic patent search on the first day. The participants also had an opportunity for actual technology hands-on and were oriented on the 2022 Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations for Patents, Utility Models, Copyrights, Trademarks, and Industrial Designs.

On the second day, the participants were taught claim drafting and rules on patent drawings. This was followed by a workshop on the drafting of specifications on researches-actual technologies.

The participants continued the workshop on the drafting of specifications on researches-actual technologies on the third day. They were further taught how to deal with the examiner’s action and other related topics for drafting a specification.   

The training was wrapped up with a presentation of outputs by the participants. Their outputs were further critiqued and will undergo a more rigid evaluation before they are submitted to the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL).
