Four golds, one silver, and two bronzes.

That sums up the unprecedented achievement of the DMMMSU Arnis Team in the  Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (PEKAF) Luzon Qualifying Tournament held last December 9-11, 2022.

The feat was a perfect follow-through of the University’s arnisadors after clinching the overall champion crown at the recently concluded SCUAA-1 Sports and Cultural Olympics held at Pangasinan State University last November 21-25, 2022.

“I am really proud of what our team has accomplished especially that this newly grouped arnisadors went head to head with some of the country’s best and long-established teams like that of the Philippine Military Academy and of the Philippine Air Force,” DMMMSU arnis coach Dr. Rissa Banana said in an interview.

Out of 45 competing teams in the entire Luzon, the team emerged as the 4th overall champion and will advance to the Battle of the Champions to be held in Metro Manila early next year where they would face other qualifiers from the NCR, Visayas, and Mindanao. Winners in the Battle of the Champions will head out to represent the Philippines in the South East Asian (SEA) Games which will be hosted by Cambodia. (by Zander Christopher Mercado)
