The College of Community Health and Allied Medical Sciences (CCHAMS) organized an in-house training for its faculty members at the Ortega Marine Educational Center, DMMMSU-Fisheries Research and Training Institute last February 9-10, 2023. This was anchored in the theme Conceptualizing Research in Healthcare: Strengthening Health Research Proposals.

The 2-day seminar, spearheaded by CCHAMS Faculty Member and Research Ethics Committee Chairman Joel C. Estacio, was attended by all members of the CCHAMS Faculty.  The activity was geared towards improving the participants’ technical skills and knowledge on research proposals which can ultimately increase the number of approved proposals from the college.

On the first day, Prof. Elena Luisa P. Pre, Prof. Jima J. Mamungay, Prof. Marites E. Rivera, and Prof. Joel C. Estacio, discussed CCHAMS Research Agenda, Evidence-Based Research Opportunities thru Global Society for Philippine Nurse Researchers, Inc., Basic Research Methods, and Literature Searching, respectively. A workshop followed the lectures.

On the second day, Prof. Jenygrace C. Marquez, Prof. Ma. Princess A. Llarenas, Dr. Jovencio M. Milan, and Prof. Sherille A. Orejudos extensively talked about Research Methodology, Research Instrument, Overview of APA 7th Edition, and Process and Techniques on Research Publication, respectively. This was then followed by the recognition of the best research proposal presenters.

Overall, the Faculty Members conceptualized about 20 research proposals which were presented during the second day of the seminar. The organizers aim to continuously monitor the conceptualized research projects and studies for submission to the University Research Office for university funding. (by Stephanie Jan T. Mayrena)
