As a means of intensifying Quality Management System (QMS) awareness among personnel, identified participants from the Central Administration (CA) and North La Union Campus (NLUC) were reoriented at the International Convention Center last April 18, 2023.

Both Atty. Kate Potingan-Licay (Internal Quality Assurance System OIC-Director), and Dr. Antonio O. Ogbinar (Vice President for Administration) re-echoed the intentionality of quality in their opening speeches, quoting John Ruskin’s “Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of intelligent efforts.” With that impetus, the four discussants tapped from the South La Union Campus tackled different key aspects of the QMS.

Dr. Emmanuel J. Songcuan, SLUC Head for IQAS, opened with a comprehensive overview on how ISO and QMS move an institution from being “out of order” to being “in order”. He also emphasized on personnel’s active participation and empowerment alongside the interrelatedness of every unit in the success of delivering services.

Mr. Joshua Justin Lee C. Bautista, former Campus Internal Management Auditor (IMA), followed with a lecture regarding the client feedback mechanism with reminders on customer relations. An interactive simulation on how to administer client feedback forms was facilitated as well.

On the other hand, Prof. Raphael Job R. Asuncion, Campus Quality Management Auditor, highlighted how Root Cause Analysis can be identified and targetted. He shared probing and visual techniques of analyses in unearthing underlying reasons for recurring concerns.

Prof. Jesus C. Rodriguez, current IMA, closed the information dissemination proper with a crash course on Responding to Audit Findings. He specifically clarified the distinctions between corrections, corrective actions, and preventive actions that process owners and auditees must be mindful of when addressing issues identified by auditors.

This event was made possible through the support of University President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. and the Vice President for Administration as initiated by the NLUC IQAS team headed by Dr. Anny Ross A. Bayan and the CA IQAS office.

DMMMSU will conduct Internal Audit with internal QMS auditors on April 24-25 (Bacnotan Cluster), 27-28 (SLUC), and May 8-9 (San Fernando Cluster) in preparation for third-party on-site visit and recertification at the year’s end quarter. (By JJL Bautista)
