Faculty members from the Mathematics and Allied Disciplines Department (MADD) of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of DMMMSU-SLUC officially has recently launched the 1st leg of the Sipnayan Convergence Program which aims to provide research capability training and workshop for high school teachers of Catalino D. Cerezo National High School (CDCNHS) at Malasiqui, Pangasinan

Dr. Larry C. Abrera, CDCNHS Principal, in his opening remarks emphasized the benefit of this collaboration for the improvement of research outputs of both teachers and students in their school. This was followed by the statement of purpose by Dr. Tjaart Jan B. Estrada, CAS-MADD Chairperson, and the overview of the training series, and the introduction of the CAS pool of mentors and co-researchers by Prof. Ronald L. Aquino, MADD Extension Facilitator.
The training started with a lecture by Dr. Eduard M. Albay, faculty member of CAS-MADD and Research Unit Head of DMMMSU-SLUC. Dr. Albay talked on Creating a Scientific Research where he focused on the pivotal stages of research and emphasized on how one can identify a good and researchable topic.
Dr. April Rivera-Aquino, a language educator, discussed Conducting Gap Analysis Using Repertory Grid, and stressed the importance of systematically organizing online resources using a repertory grid as this plays a significant role on the conduct of a so-called gap analysis.
After each lecture, the participants were given different workshops and activities.
The department finalized its partnership with CDCNHS through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on December 2, 2022 at CDCNHS, Malasiqui, Pangasinan.
Sipnayan Convergence Program is under the Statistics, Research, and New Design Thinking (StRaND Thinking) Project, an offshoot of the CARE Training Series. This is the flagship extension program of the CAS-MADD that aims to improve the competencies of Mathematics teachers not only in basic calculus but also in other fields of mathematics through a series of lectures and workshops depending on the package program chosen by the recipient school. The said program has three (3) main projects — Trends and Innovations in Mathematics (TIMS) which mainly aims at improving instructional material development; Technology in Teaching Mathematics (TechTeaM) which focuses on workshops on the integration of technologies in teaching mathematics such as GeoGebra, R, SciLab, etc.; and Statistics, Research, and New Design Thinking (StRaND Thinking) which caters lectures about research, data analysis and interpretation, and design thinking.
