Van Lang University (VLU), DMMMSU’s institutional partner in the ASEAN region, extended its support to the champions of DMMMSU’s iDebate team by sponsoring their participation in the week-long Sustainable Global Development (SGD) Summer School held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam from July 17 to 23, 2023.

DMMMSU iDebaters, Justin Rafael N. Tangog and Chrisna G. Carpio of the DMMMSU-SLUC College of Education, have earned their reputation in the field of competitive debating when they joined the International Debate Championship sponsored by partner universities in Vietnam, United Kingdom, Malaysia and Australia from April to May 2023 and were invited to participate in the SGD Camp. This annual event brings together scholars, community planners and experts from various countries to discuss and explore solutions for sustainable global development challenges.

The SDG Summer School 2023, with its spotlight on Circular Economy, illuminated the significance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). DMMMSU iDebate Champions seized this unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of global challenges and commit to a more sustainable lifestyle.

For one week, Tangog and Carpio—along with other participants from the United Kingdom—were enveloped in a multicultural learning environment that spanned diverse horizons. Vietnam’s rich culture served as both backdrop and canvas, allowing the winners to absorb its beauty while fostering cross-cultural exchange.

Collaboration took center stage as Tangog and Carpio joined forces with fellow students, organizing a Fundraising Event that resonated with the spirit of community and shared purpose. Additionally, they engaged in a Treasure Hunting activity with students from Saigon’s Children Organization, forging connections that transcend borders.
