In celebration of the 4th DMMMSU Institute of Environmental Governance (IEG) Foundation Anniversary and 16th Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week, faculty members of the Institute of Environmental Studies (IES), together with the members of Assosasyon ti Mangngalap Ken Mannalon iti Baroro Bacnotan La Union Incorporated and barangay and municipal employees planted 500 mangroves (Rhizophora sp.) along Baroro River, Brgy. Baroro, Bacnotan, La Union on November 11, 2023.

Mangroves provide significant environmental services including habitat of fishes, crabs, shrimps, and other organisms; they control erosion and provide a shield from strong water and air currents, among others.

The mangroves were provided by Fostering Education & Environment for Development, Inc. through the EcoSurf Project. (By CHJ)
