Janine Mackenzie B. Galiste, a Grade 11 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics student from DMMMSU North La Union Campus Laboratory High School (NLUC LHS) bagged several awards during the 2024 National Science Quest held at Baguio City on February 23-25, 2024.

Galiste competed in two different events. She secured 4th Place in the individual category of the Environmental Science Quiz Bee and 2nd Place in the group category of the Science Quiz Bee, together with the other three participants from the La Union Schools Division. 

Galiste’s triumph at the national level follows her earlier achievements where she claimed 1st Place during the Cluster Level held at Bacnotan National High School on February 13, 2024, and 2nd Place during the Division Level held at Naguilian National High School on February 21, 2024.

In a short exchange, Galiste expressed her thanks to her family and coaches for their steadfast support and guidance. “At first, I doubted myself but thanks to the unwavering support and guidance of my family and coaches that propelled me for this national competition,” Galiste said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Joan S. Valdez, LHS Chairperson, conveyed her heartfelt congratulations to Janine for her outstanding achievement during the said competitions. “Indeed, the medals were a testament to the commitment of LHS teachers to excellence,” Prof. Valdez said. 

The National Science Quest aimed to promote academic excellence in Science and to create camaraderie and sportsmanship among learners from Grades 1 to 12 and coaches. It was participated by both public and private elementary and secondary schools from all over the country. (By Elen Rose A. Padua)
