The College of Graduate Studies’ Master of Arts in Language Teaching Program at DMMMSU SLUC recently hosted a MOOC Camp for Higher Education Institution (HEI) faculty members, focusing on English language teaching. This initiative, supported by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Office of the United States Department of State, was designed to address professional development, language proficiency, and literacy for both faculty and the local community.

Adopting a facilitator-led approach to Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), the camp aimed to enhance the teaching competencies and professional communication skills of English language educators. The participants engaged in a series of asynchronous meet-ups, concentrating on differentiating content for students with diverse language proficiencies, learning styles, and cognitive needs.

The camp, which ran from January 2 to March 4, 2024, structured its weekly sessions to cover a broad spectrum of MOOC content, from re-orientations to module-specific strategies. A significant focus was on innovative teaching methods, exemplified by the integration of board games into educational practices. This approach aimed at enhancing educators’ methodologies, ensuring they meet the diverse learning needs of their students effectively.  (By Precy Joy B. Tollino)
