DMMMSU researchers, under the CHED- LAKAS project, participated in a specialized training program organized by BauerTek Corporation from March 10-23, 2024.

The training was focused on routine work in an FDA, CGMP, and Halal Certified Pharmaceutical Facility, which involved some of the current products of Bauertek Corp. Raw Materials and Packaging Materials. The training emphasized safety procedures, quality control, adherence to regulations, and the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic work environment in a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.

The training was divided into three parts: Manufacturing processes, Trial Production— products with probiotics, and Trial Production— Consortium Products with IFPs Probiotics, especially indigenous food plants.

Key components of the training include hands-on experience with BauerTek Corp.’s current product lines, utilizing both raw materials and packaging materials provided by the corporation. Throughout the program, significant emphasis was placed on safety protocols, quality control measures, regulatory compliance, and the paramount importance of maintaining a pristine and hygienic working environment in pharmaceutical manufacturing settings.

This training is part of the CHED LAKAS-approved project titled Advancing Ilocos IFP Food Systems through Academia-Industry Collaborative Research and Innovations toward Healthy Food Security. DMMMSU participants were joined by representatives from Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) and Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC).

DMMMSU delegates composed of Ms. Dianne A. Peralta, Project Staff, DMMMSU CHED LAKAS Project, Ms. Mary Ann Ysabel Y. Orpilla, Faculty Researcher, and Mr. Diomer B. Serra, University Research Associate and two faculty members of the Mid-La Union Campus, MS. Sheila B. Alvarez, and Ms. Zea D. Arquero. This CHED LAKAS consortium seeks to maximize the development of probiotics from indigenous food plants through academic-industry collaboration.

The participation of DMMMSU researchers in this industry-focused training underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering practical skills and knowledge among its academic community. Such collaborative initiatives enhance researchers’ capabilities, preparing them to contribute effectively to advancements within the pharmaceutical sector and beyond.
