Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) cemented its athletic dominance against four other state universities and colleges across the region at the 2024 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association – Region 1 (SCUAA-1) Summer Olympics held from April 15-19, 2024. 

Defending its championship title with unparalleled vigor, DMMMSU eclipsed its rivals, including the longest-running sports dynasty in the region, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU). DMMMSU secured a commanding lead with 124 gold, 67 silver, and 80 bronze medals.  MMSU settled for second place, trailing with 88 gold, 87 silver, and 62 bronze medals. Pangasinan State University (PSU) could only gaze in awe from the third position, trailing behind with 35 gold, 27 silver, and 43 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the University of the Northern Philippines (UNP) clinched 4th place with 30 gold, 58 silver, and 80 bronze. Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) ranked 5th with 24 gold, 64 silver, and 44 bronze. 

With unparalleled skill and tenacity, DMMMSU stingers ruled in the following ball games:  Basketball Women (5), Volleyball Women (6), Beach Volleyball Women (2), Baseball (9), and Softball (9). Their supremacy extended even further, with victories in Badminton (8), Arnis (26), and Chess Men (4).

DMMMSU also excelled in track and field events, clinching 18 gold medals in Athletics Men and 19 in Athletics Women. Additionally, DMMMSU’s Taekwondo Men’s team dominated, winning 9 out of 13 gold medals in their category.

With this historic victory, DMMMSU reaffirmed its status as this year’s sports powerhouse in the region, claiming sole possession of the coveted overall championship trophy this SCUAA-1 Summer Olympics. (By John Mark G. Lachica)
