DMMMSU’s Extension Office, headed by Prof. Emerita D. Galiste, conducted a monitoring and evaluation activity for six ongoing projects at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – South La Union Campus (DMMMSU-SLUC) on April 5, 2024. Director Galiste was accompanied by Prof. Rodolfo Nillo, University Training Coordinator; Prof. Rufo Baro, URDI MIS Coordinator; and Prof. Ronald Bustos, Campus Extension Head.

The projects evaluated include Project BHRO (Boosting Responsibility through Holistic Opportunities) at the DSWD-Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth in Bauang, La Union, which aims to provide livelihood training opportunities. Project leaders Prof. Yezza E. Sindayen and Prof. Delia M. Imperial, alongside Ms. Aimee Bulatao, a representative from DSWD RRCY, were present during the assessment.

Another project reviewed was the Contactless Attendance Monitoring System with SMS Notification in Tubao, La Union. Issues related to system efficiency were discussed by Prof. Baro, with feedback from Melanio Danao, the Principal of Sta. Teresa National High School.

The Health Awareness Program, represented by Prof. Marites Rivera and the Punong Barangay of Macalva Sur, Agoo, La Union, Mr. Henry Ordona, was also evaluated for its alignment with research.

The fourth project, Project STITCH (Skills Training Initiatives in Technology for Community and Home Economics), was evaluated at Pugo Central School Alternative Learning System.  The project, which focuses on vocational skills development for community and home economics, was represented by the project leader, Dr. Veronica Carbonell, and Ms. Xermaine Medina of the College of Education.

The final project involved the dissemination of Off-Season and Mushroom Production Technology by the College of Agriculture, which aims at increasing local farmers’ awareness of advanced agricultural practices. This project, represented by Mr. Ferdinand Navarro and Mr. Johnny Corcha JR., discussed potential enhancements with partners from the National Irrigation Administration.

The monitoring visit emphasized the critical role of ongoing evaluation, stakeholder feedback, and adaptive project management in enhancing the effectiveness and relevance of extension projects. (By Precy Joy Tollino)
