As part of their observance of the National Farmers’ and Fisherfolks’ Month, the College of Agriculture of the North La Union Campus, through the initiative of the Soil Science Society, brought its STK on Wheels Project to Brgy. Naguituban, San Juan La Union on May 23, 2024. This project aims to provide a science-based decision support tool for farmers on soil and nutrient management.
Soil Science Society conducted a technical briefing on balanced fertilization strategy (BFS), soil sampling demonstration, and farm profiling for 31 members of The Farmers Association of Naguituban, San Juan, La Union Inc. After the said briefing, the farmers will submit their soil samples, which will be tested to serve as a basis for providing fertilizer recommendations for the coming wet season rice cropping.
This initiative was supported by the Municipal Agriculture Office of San Juan La Union, Barangay Naguituban, San Juan, La Union, and the DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management, which provided free soil test kits. (By Julius Caesar Amoyen)
