The College of Education – South La Union Campus officially launched Project READS (Reading Education Across Diverse Subjects), an extension project in partnership with Pugo Central National High School (PCNHS), Pugo, La Union on August 28, 2024.

The initiative aims to elevate reading proficiency among high school students through targeted, cross-disciplinary reading education. The launch was graced by Dr. Nona M. Rivera, Dean of the College of Education, and Mr. Ross U. Rivera, Principal of PCNHS, along with the faculty members of PCNHS.

Prof. John Mark G. Lachica and Prof. Abelynn T. Llarenas, who also served as key speakers during the inaugural sessions, contributed invaluable insights into the program’s objectives and implementation strategies.

With the approval of DMMMSU President Jaime Ipac Manuel, Jr., Project READS, scheduled to run until October 16, 2024, is designed to empower high school teachers across all subjects to integrate reading instruction into their teaching. This initiative aligns with the Department of Education’s commitment to enhancing the literacy skills of students, particularly at PCNHS, by equipping teachers with the tools and techniques necessary to help learners in reading.
