A team of career professionals conducted a Career Awareness and Guidance Activity at Kayapa National High School on March 18, 2025. This was a response to the special request of Kayapa NHS Head Shiaianne T. Cabuten through a letter she addressed to President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr.

In her letter, Ms. Cabuten presented the remoteness of the High School which explains why few Higher Education Institutions visit the place for career orientation. Acting on the genuine concern of Ms. Cabuten to provide for her students help in career decision-making, President Manuel coordinated for a team to visit the High School.

The team was led by Prof. Jo Ann P. Rulla, Head for Student Affairs Services at the South La Union Campus. Prof. Rulla introduced DMMMSU and presented the Campuses and the courses offered.  Ms. Angelita S. Domondon delivered a career talk and facilitated interactive games to engage the students along with Dr. Imelda A. Coloma, Ms. Angelita S. Domondon, and Ms. Ma. Cristina B. Rapanut, along with Ms. Heide B. Domingo, a SAS staff member.

Grades 10, 11, and 12 learners received career coaching and guidance in their classrooms. Also, Grade 12 learners were able to take the DMMMSU’s College Admission Test. In addition, the team treated the learners with free snacks.

The team expressed their joy in being able to inspire the learners to pursue tertiary education.

“The path going to the place was challenging. We had to pass through Alilem, Ilocos Sur, to reach the place, but it was worth the bumpy travel going there,” shared Prof. Rulla in a short interview.

“We were happy to see the faces of the learners spark at seeing us, reaching out to them to help them make an informed decision in choosing the best program for them to enroll in,” she continued.

Through their social media post, Kayapa National High School extended their gratitude to DMMMSU, especially mentioning Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. for supporting the initiative.

The event was organized through the school’s Guidance Program with Mr. Sixto Domogen, the School Guidance Designate. (By Ayu)
