The Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd) and Master of Arts in Technology and Livelihood Education (MA TLE) faculty members and students from the South La Union Campus, along with the D’Economist League, held a hands-on livelihood training for 32 community members at the Tubao Multipurpose Cooperative Hall in Francia Sur, Tubao, La Union, on April 1, 2025.

The training on tomato jam processing and rice coffee production aims to transform local resources into viable income-generating opportunities. It was organized in response to an invitation from the Tubao Multipurpose Cooperative (TMC) as part of its “Karunungan, Kabuhayan, at Kita Program.”

Participants included persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, members of the Tubao Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), and the Green Ladies Association of District 2 (GLAD 2).

Ms. Joanna Marie Enriquez, a Faculty Member, opened the session with a discussion on best practices for handling marketable goods. Subsequently, Ms. Jessica Binha-on and Ms. Aimee Joy Hermosora, TLE Faculty Member and MA student, respectively, provided practical experience through a tomato jam-making session guided by their 7S framework: sorting, sweeping, systematizing, standardizing, sustaining, safety, and self-discipline.

Mr. Lar Cacanando and Mr. Roderick Milo, another teacher-student tandem, facilitated practical instruction on roasting, grinding, and packing rice coffee products. Mr. Vladimir Joy Cariaso, senior faculty member and the SLUC Business Affairs and Resource Development (BARD) Head, wrapped up the training with product packaging strategies.

Directors Adelina D. Pintor and Milarosa P. Viduya expressed their gratitude for the partnership and encouraged audiences to seize such learning and collaborative opportunities. Furthermore, both emphasized the exploration and experimentation of tradition and innovation, with the one-day training unlocking more income-generating opportunities for the participants.
