SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — In a formal ceremony held on May 8, 2025, Dr. Victorio C. Palabay was officially sworn in as the seventh Chancellor of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC). Other newly designated key campus officials also took their oaths.
Dr. Jake Tyrone I. Somera was designated as the Dean of the College of Technology (COT), Dr. Luis Abrenica as the Program Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) Program, and Dr. Arrianne Michelle F. Fabro as the Campus Secretary. Dr. Fabro is concurrently serving as the Head of Strategic Communications.
The designations were earlier confirmed by DMMMSU President Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., who underscored the importance of visionary leadership in propelling the University toward its strategic goals. Dr. Palabay succeeded Dr. Eduardo C. Corpuz, whose tenure was marked by significant academic and infrastructural achievements.
Prior to his designation as the Chancellor, Dr. Palabay served as Dean of the College of Technology, bringing with him extensive experience in academic administration and institutional development. He is expected to lead MLUC in advancing inclusive growth and academic excellence.
As the newly designated Dean of COT, Dr. Somera is tasked with enhancing the academic program and strengthening industry collaboration. Dr. Abrenica, as BSIT Program Chair, will focus on curriculum improvement and student development in the field of industrial technology.
Dr. Fabro, in her dual capacity as Campus Secretary and Head of Strategic Communications, will oversee the streamlining of administrative functions and lead efforts to improve campus-wide communication and stakeholder engagement.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Palabay expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and his fellow officials. “We are committed to working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to uphold the standards of excellence and innovation that define MLUC,” he said.
The leadership ceremony marks a renewed chapter for DMMMSU-MLUC as it pursues its mandate to deliver quality higher education and community development in the region. (By Arriane Michelle Fabro)
