The Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University–Sericulture Research and Development Institute Non-Teaching Association (DMMMSU-SRDI NTA) completed a two-day benchmarking activity in Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Science City of Muñoz and Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), Gabaldon Campus, Nueva Ecija  on May 26-27, 2025.

The delegation, led by Dr. Elizabeth P. Obra, SRDI NTA President, engaged in activities that support the continuous professional growth of non-teaching personnel.

Mr. Ryan Esteban, President of CLSU NASA, highlighted the vital role of non-academic staff in University operations, including Job Orders (JOs) and Contract of Service (COS) workers, who support administration, healthcare, and logistics.

Participants then toured the CLSU KAMALIG and the CHSI – Fashion and Textile Technology facility, where they witnessed innovative practices applicable to SRDI’s textile and sericulture initiatives.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited NEUST Ecopark in Gabaldon Campus which highlighted the institution’s sustainability initiatives. They were welcomed by Dr. Francis Dumayas, Campus Director and NEUST Board Secretary.

On the second day, Mr. Jomarie Manalus, President of the NEUST Non-Teaching Personnel Association led a discussion on addressing relevant issues concerning staff welfare and association management. A subsequent open forum allowed for an exchange of questions and best practices among DMMMSU and NEUST personnel.

Beyond the operational insights, the activity revealed best practices aligned with global goals outlined by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the best practices adhere to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). (By Gregory Lawrence Bangug and Delia Lopez)
