Bacnotan, La Union – Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Sericulture Research and Development Institute (DMMMSU-SRDI) has launched a month-long work immersion program for 15 students from three academic institutions: Philippine Science High School, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, and Abra State Institute of Science and Technology. The program runs from June 9 to July 9, 2025.
Designed to bridge classroom knowledge with industry application, the program offers intensive hands-on training in mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing, post-cocoon processing, and sericulture research. It reflects DMMMSU-SRDI’s continuing commitment to developing a skilled and future-ready workforce for the Philippine silk industry.
Dr. Cristeta F. Gapuz, Executive Director of DMMMSU-SRDI, highlighted the program’s significance in nurturing young talents who can contribute to the sustainability and innovation of local sericulture.
