In a momentous gathering that celebrated the spirit of internationalization, the first-ever Internationalization Day entitled Gezellig took place on May 9, 2023, at the Teachers’ Training Center of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- South La Union Campus (DMMMSU – SLUC). The event drew 118 participants, including faculty, students, and staff, who have actively contributed to internationalization efforts in the past two years.

A highlight of the day was the recognition of 180 constituents of the DMMMSU – SLUC community for their significant contributions to internationalization through their participation in various trainings, seminars, awards, competitions, and student mobility programs. These individuals were commended for their dedication and commitment to fostering global presence virtually since 2021.

The event was graced by Dr. Elsie M. Pacho, the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), who shared valuable insights into DMMMSU’s international linkages and strategies for establishing strong partnerships; Dr. Fauslyn Gay U. Amongan, the Head for Instruction, Dr. Jesus Rafael B. Jarata, the Director for Internationalization, Linkages, and ETEEAP, and Mr. Ronald B. Bustos, Head for Campus Internationalization, Linkages, and Extension.

The IZN Day featured a talk on the interplay of internationalization and personal identity, as Mr. Fernando P Oringo, an international program secondary teacher based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, delivered an insightful talk on the subject. His virtual presence added a global perspective to the event, enriching the participants’ understanding of the connection between one’s identity and international engagement.

Dr. Jocelyn Alberto-Floresca, a faculty member from the College of Education, captivated the audience with her presentation on utilizing one’s research passion to transcend borders and ignite growth and development. Her nature walk and bird watching passions shed light on the transformative power of research in bridging international boundaries and fostering positive change.

As the first Internationalization Day at DMMMSU – SLUC, Gezellig served as a platform to celebrate the achievements of the university’s internationalization initiatives while inspiring a new wave of enthusiasm and commitment among its participants. The event’s success further solidified the institution’s resolve to embrace a global outlook and continue forging strong international linkages in the pursuit of academic excellence and holistic development.
