Dr. Angelina T. Gonzales, VP for Research, Development, and Innovation, and Dr. Jimilee M. Garcia, Focal Person for Externally funded projects, represented DMMMSU at the 4th International Conference on Integrated Natural Resources and Environment Management (INREM 2023). The conference, held at the Century Park Hotel, Manila, from November 21 to 23, pooled diverse experts, researchers, and policymakers.


Under the theme “Future-proofing Sustainable Ridge-to-Reef Transformations through INREM,” the conference aimed to address the pressing challenges facing natural resource management and environmental sustainability.
Participants engaged in sessions that explored innovative strategies and solutions for integrated approaches to ensure a sustainable future for ridge-to-reef ecosystems.
The opening ceremony on November 21 featured the keynote address by Hon. Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary, and the launching of INREM as UP RI Resilience Hub. Also, the conference provided a platform for networking and collaboration among participants, fostering connections crucial for future research endeavors and policy implementations.
Over the course of the conference, attendees participated in a series of plenary sessions and discussions. The conference also highlighted the presentation of research findings and case studies on key focus areas including biodiversity conservation, water resource management, sustainable development practices, and sustainable ridge-to-reef transformations.
Attendees expressed optimism about the potential impact of the knowledge gained during INREM 2023 on shaping more effective environmental conservation and sustainable development strategies. The event’s outcomes are hoped to contribute significantly to the ongoing global dialogue on integrated natural resources and environment management, guiding future initiatives for a more sustainable and resilient planet.
