Dr. Jocelyn Floresca, Program Chair of the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – South La Union Campus (DMMMSU-SLUC), played a vital role in biodiversity conservation efforts showcased at the Camp John Hay Biodiversity Project Exhibit launched at the Bell House Veranda on March 21, 2025.

The exhibit featured photographs of bird and plant species found within the Camp John Hay Forest Reserve, captured by Dr. Floresca and Dr. Liezel Magtoto. The project aimed to raise public awareness about the increasing spread of invasive plant species that pose a threat to the forest reserve’s ecosystem.

Dr. Floresca’s participation formed part of the research project titled “Assessment of Bioinvasion and Proliferation of Exotic Plant Species in Camp John Hay Forest Reserve”, which focuses on assessing the impact of exotic species and providing policy recommendations for forest management and native species restoration.

During the exhibit’s opening, experts, researchers, and environmental stakeholders discussed the ecological consequences of bioinvasion and the urgent need for improved conservation policies. Strategies for managing invasive species and strengthening forest protection plans were also highlighted.

The event was organized by the University of the Philippines Baguio (UP Baguio) in collaboration with several government agencies and academic institutions, including the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Cordillera Administrative Region (DENR-CAR), Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office – Benguet (PENRO-Benguet), City Environment and Natural Resources Office – Baguio (CENRO-Baguio), Watershed and Water Resources Research, Development and Extension Center (WWRRDEC), DMMMSU, and Benguet State University (BSU).

The exhibit ran until March 28, 2025, attracting visitors, researchers, and environmental advocates committed to the protection and preservation of Camp John Hay’s rich biodiversity. (By Jesus Rafael B. Jarata)
