On February 10, 2020, Cagayan State University (CSU) Team led by Dr. Lina M. Garan, Vice President for Partnership and Resource Mobilization and former CSU Beekeeping Focal Person together with Dr. Nilda Muñoz, Balik Scientist and Consultant; Dr. Florentina M. Dumlao, former President of the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) and former DMMMSU OIC President now also serving as CSU Consultant; and 15 farmers from the 3rd District of Cagayan, visited DMMMSU National Apiculture Research Training and Development Institute (NARTDI) for a benchmarking activity to allow the aspiring beekeepers to appreciate better the importance and benefits of raising honeybees specifically the Apis mellifera L. species.

This is in relation to the collaboration with the CSU project titled: “Apiculture Therapy, Livelihood and Conservation Program” that will be implemented together with DMMMSU-NARTDI. The said research is supported by Hon. Joseph L. Lara, Representative, 3rd District, Province of Cagayan.

All NARTDI officials led by Dr. Antonio E. Madrid, Executive Director and its personnel, and DMMMSU Vice Presidents for Administration, Academic Affairs, and Research and Extension representing Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., DMMMSU President, were in complete attendance during the opening program. Dr. Antonio O. Ogbinar, University and Board Secretary introduced the University executives and Institute employees. On behalf of Congressman Pablo C. Ortega, Representative, 1st District, Province of La Union, Mr. Joseph de Guzman, graced the occasion and delivered an inspiring message. Visitors were toured at the NARTDI demonstration apiary after the program and farmers were given an overview of beekeeping.

To further promote the beekeeping industry in the Philippines, DMMMSU NARTDI continuously initiates various research, development, and extension (RDE) activities aimed at sustaining and increasing partnerships with various stakeholders and other industry supporters while enhancing productivity; hence, contributing to ecological balance and economy boost. Presently, NARTDI maintains its four (4) regional and eight (8) provincial apiculture satellite centers in the country that serve as arms of the Institute in promoting and developing beekeeping for the realization of NARTDI’s vision, mission, and goal.

The (CSU) has also been very active in implementing apiculture-related activities. (RMPajarillo)
