The Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – National Apiculture Research, Training and Development Institute (DMMMSU-NARTDI) and Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to establish a Regional Apiculture Satellite Center in Aurora on June 23, 2025.
The agreement, inked by DMMMSU Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation Dr. Angelina T. Gonzales and ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes, aims to create a hub for integrated research, specialized training, extension services, and capacity-building focused on apiculture and sustainable beekeeping practices.
The new center will support local beekeepers by promoting economic growth, ecological sustainability, and regional expertise in honeybee biology and apiculture technology.
Dr. Joseph A. Panas, Executive Director of NARTDI; Dr. Venelyn L. Bersamira, Division Chief of AQA-NARTDI; Engr. Raquel C. Gamotlong, Head for NARTDI-IQAS; Dr. Riosahlie Y. Madrid, Deputy Dean of the School of Agricultural Sciences; and consultant Dr. Chito Sace attended the signing ceremony.
This partnership is expected to advance apiculture research and development not only in Aurora but across the country, strengthening the national honey industry. (By Ludilyn B. Dingle)
