The Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC) welcomed a delegation from Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) on July 3, 2025, for a benchmarking visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between the academic sector, industry, and government in the field of metals and engineering.
During the visit, DMMMSU-MLUC Chancellor Dr. Victorio C. Palabay gave an overview of the university’s academic programs, research initiatives, modern facilities, and ongoing partnerships, particularly with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 1. The delegation also engaged in discussions on how the university fosters innovation and supports regional development.
The group toured the Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) – Region 1, where Dr. Jake Tyrone I. Somera, Dean of the College of Technology and MEIC focal person, explained how the center contributes to local industries through technology development, prototyping, fabrication services, and training programs.
WMSU participants also explored the university’s engineering facilities and took part in a knowledge exchange session with faculty and staff. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Somera, faculty member Mr. Jessie D. Panganiban, and DOST Region 1 representatives.
The benchmarking activity provided an opportunity for DMMMSU-MLUC to share its practices in engineering education and innovation with visiting institutions working to enhance their own programs and support regional development. (By Arrianne Michelle F. Fabro)
