Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), through its College of Agriculture in SLUC and NLUC, launched its first joint academic engagement with Indonesia’s Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (UNTIRTA) via an online guest lecture series titled “From Farm to Fork: Building Resilient and Equitable Sustainable Food Supply Chains.” The virtual event ran from June 16 to 20, 2025.
Twelve professors and researchers from DMMMSU presented on diverse topics ranging from soil science and animal production to agribusiness and crop processing.
Julius Caesar Amoyen discussed the use of biochar-based fertilizers, while Jimilee M. Garcia shared insights on native chicken production. Arnelee G. Laquidan analyzed corn market dynamics in the northern Philippines.
Ison M. Calimpang examined the phenotypic and phytochemical characteristics of “Sakurab,” and Rosemarie O. Tattoo explored the potential of raising native pigs. Ferdinand M. Navarro, George T. Bondot, and Socorro L. Rulloda focused their lectures on sustainable agriculture and smart farming techniques.
Meanwhile, Analyn V. Sagun addressed challenges in mushroom production, Janie D. Usi discussed raising free-range chickens, and Maria Ysabel Y. Orpilla tackled food safety issues.
Indonesian counterparts from UNTIRTA, led by Tubagus Bahtiar Rusbana, Yeni Budiawati, Desy Aryani, Fitri Alina Radityani, and Kartina AM, discussed research on food technology, microplastics and nanotechnology in agriculture.
Leny Grace C. Garcia and John Emil Raguindin from DMMMSU served as moderators and emcees.
This lecture series marks the first of many collaborative academic activities between DMMMSU and UNTIRTA following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding earlier this year. With shared interests in sustainable development and food security, both universities are exploring further research collaborations and faculty mobility programs.
