To produce tissue-cultured banana seedling and to establish Banana Lakatan Techno Demo Farm, DMMMSU, through the College of Agriculture of DMMMSU – North La Union Campus signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry – Baguio National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center (DA-BPI-BNCRDPSC) at DMMMSU Central Administration Conference Hall

on March 5, 2021.

The undertaking is under the DA-BPI Project titled “Intensified Mass Production of Banana Quality Planting Material through Tissue Culture Technology in Benguet and La Union”.

The agreement will be in force for a year. Under this, DA-BPI-BNCRDPSC will provide virus-indexed explants, seedlings and initial farm inputs for the techno-demo establishment, and training on tissue culture. DMMMSU, on the other hand, will subsequently produce ready-to-plant seedlings for dispersal and maintain the techno-demo area.

The establishment of a techno demo farm in the University will provide a learning site for banana production and planting material for interested adaptors in La Union.

The MOA was signed by Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., DMMMSU President; and Dr. Jesus R. Aspuria, DA-BPI-BNCRDPSC Center Chief. The signing was witnessed by Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabafunda, NLUC Chancellor, Dr. Analyn V. Sagun, College of Agriculture Dean, Dr. Lydia P. Libunao, College of Graduate Studies Dean and Dr. Virgilio M. Libunao.
