Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) fully supports the attainment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all United Nations Member States. Hence, DMMMSU is committed to preserving and conserving the diverse species of flora and fauna found on its three campuses through the reduction of the university’s overall carbon footprint. All administrators, faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to promote and contribute to this endeavor

Energy Conservation

DMMMSU recognizes energy conservation as one of the primary steps in reducing carbon emissions. It does not only reduce the university’s environmental impacts, but also helps save university resources, promote the health of faculty, staff, and students, and ease the transition to the use of more sustainable technologies.

Under this objective, DMMMSU aims to:

  1. Reduce power and electricity consumption in the three campuses
  2. Promote the development and use of sustainable technologies in lieu of current equipment used by the university
  3. To achieve these goals, the University implements the following steps:
  4. Set guidelines on the use of power and electricity within university premises
  5. Monthly monitoring of power and electricity consumption and inspection of electric facilities in all buildings
  6. Upgrade to more sustainable technologies

Transportation Policy

DMMMSU promotes walkable campuses and responds to the accessibility needs of its constituents through the construction of road infrastructures to, from, and within all campuses of the university.

Specifically, DMMMSU aims to:

  1. Advocate for clean air and a well-protected environment despite the continuous development in the university’s infrastructures
  2. Promote safe and environment-friendly transport infrastructures

For the attainment of the abovementioned objectives, DMMMSU shall:

  1. Enhance pedestrian movement
  2. Promote bicycles and eco-friendly vehicles
  3. Construct road infrastructures and pedestrian zones integrated with nature

Waste Management

DMMMSU adopts the 3R initiative – Reduce, Reuse & Recycle – as part of its waste management program. In addition, the university also encourages its faculty, staff, and students to adopt a zero-waste lifestyle to decrease the waste produced by all three campuses.

In particular, the university’s goals are:

  1. Reduce wastes
  2. Adopt proper waste management in all colleges
  3. Strengthen waste management literacy of its constituents

To achieve the following goals, DMMMSU shall:

  1. Limit and avoid single-use plastics and other plastic wastes
  2. Monitor waste segregation and disposal of all colleges
  3. Ensure proper disposal of e-wastes and other toxic and hazardous wastes
  4. Conduct information drives on proper waste management

Water Consumption

Water conservation means using these precious and limited resources wisely and responsibly. It is one of the ways to save energy, thus, decreasing the university’s carbon footprint. Conserving water also helps make water available to various communities in the generations to come.

Under this objective, DMMMSU specifically aims to:

  1. Reduce the water consumption of all three campuses
  2. Ensure water availability and portability for use
  3. Promote water sustainability through the development and use of sustainable technologies

To achieve these goals, the University implements the following steps:

  1. Set guidelines on the consumption of water
  2. Monthly monitoring of water consumption per college
  3. Upgrade to more sustainable technologies
