On October 14, 2020 during the Management Review of 2nd Party Audit Report, authors of research publications were each awarded 44600-peso worth of laptop and cash incentives ranging from Php 30, 000 to Php 40, 000.  

DMMMSU research publishers are awarded laptop and cash incentives at the North La Union Campus on October 14, 2020.

The following authors received one laptop and cash incentives for their 2019 publications in Web of Science Indexed IAMURE International Journal of Ecology and Conservation (Vol.28 No. 1):

  • Jovita V. Valmores published Effects of Different Soil Amendents on Eggplant Production; Jimilee M. Garcia published Reeling Wastewater Reuse and Storage: Reaping its Benefits for Mulberry Sapling Production;
  • Mabel M. Caccam published Productivity and Profitability of Sericulture in Mulberries Grown in Organic and Conventional Farming Practices in La Union, Philippines; and
  • Jomar L. Aban published Isolation, Molecular Identification, Phylogenetic Analysis and Biodiversity of Root Symbiotic Fungi (RSF).

Except for Mr. Aban who received Php 40, 000. 00, the other authors mentioned above received PhP 30, 000. 00 each.

The University President himself, Dr. Jaime I. Manuel. Jr., also received a laptop and PhP 40, 000 for his 2019 publication. The paper titled Stakeholders’ Awareness and Initiatives to Achieve Sustainable Watershed Resources Management: A Brief Cross Sectorial Case Report which President Manuel coauthored with Prof. Jomar Alban was published in Scopus Indexed EurAsian Journal of Biosciences.

Meanwhile, Dr. Eduard M. Albay received a laptop and Php 40, 000. 00 for his 2019 publication of his paper titled Analyzing the Effects of the Problem Solving Approach to the Performance and Attitudes of First Year University Students in the ELSEVIER indexed Social Sciences and Humanities. He received another cash prize amounting to Php 30, 000. 00 for his 2020 publication of his paper titled Towards a 21st Century Mathematics Classroom: Investigating the Effects of the Problem-Solving Approach Among Tertiary Education Students in De La Salle University Asia Pacific Social Science, which is accredited by CHED and indexed by Scopus.

Moreover, Dr. Leonora E. Ngilangil received a laptop and Php 40, 000 for her 2020 publication of her paper titled Effectiveness of Vetiver (Vetiver zizanioides) in Purifying Wastewater from Pig Farm in Chemical Engineering Transactions (Vol. 78) which is indexed by Web of Science.

On the other hand, Dr. Ngilangil’s coauthor, Prof. Desiree A. Vilal, received a laptop and Php 40, 000 for publishing their paper titled Effective Microorganisms as Remediation for Marfinal Soil in the Philippines in Web of Science indexed journal Chemical Engineering Transactions (Vol. 78).

Also, Dr. Genaro D. Omo received a laptop and Php 30, 000. 00 for publishing this year his paper titled Growth and Yield Performance of Finger Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)) Dyango F1 Variety as Affected by the Frequency of Spraying with Mature Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) Water Stored in Various Conditions in Journal of Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences (Vol. 16) indexed by Web of Science.

Last but not least, Prof. Ofelia Valdehueza received a laptop and PhP 40, 000. 00 for publishing this year her paper titled Randomized Controlled Trial on the Effectiveness of Web-Based Genomics Nursing Education Intervention for Undergraduate Nursing Students: A Study Protocol in Journal of Advanced Nursing, John Wiley & Sons Ltd Publication, and Web of Science indexed.

Cash awards depend on the impact factor (IF) of the journals where articles are published. Based on the new incentive scheme for research publication, PhP 40.000 is given for articles published in journals whose IF is 1-2, PhP 60, 000. 00 for those with 3 to 4 IF, PhP 80, 000. 00 for those with 5 to 6 IF, and PhP 100, 000. for those with 7 and higher IF.

President Manuel during the closing program of the IQA Audit on September 30, 2020 announced that the target of the University for publication within three years are already achieved this year.

One of his goals as President is to improve research publications in the University; hence, the increase in research and extension incentives. Also, he has initiated the increase in incentives in sports and faculty and staff development. (Ayu)
