DMMMSU-SLUC, through its Gender and Development (GAD) Unit, actively participated in the annual celebration of the 2022 National Women’s Month in March— with a thanksgiving mass and #WeMakeChangeWorkforWomen celebration that is anchored in “malasakit at pagbabago” last March 31, 2022.

After the Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Fr. Jhun Joel Temple, the culmination program started with messages paying tribute to the extraordinary roles of all Juanas as trailblazers of change in the University; and also a call for concrete, sustainable, and inclusive initiatives towards gender equality.

SLUC Chancellor Dr. Joanne C. Rivera thanked the strong commitment of the personnel in promoting the inclusion of women in the development of the Campus and the University.

Dr. Nona M. Rivera, Dean of the College of Education; and Ms. Vilma Gagni, Director of the Philippine Carabao Center, also shared their experiences and inspirational messages.

SLUC’s women’s month closing salvo concluded with CE male faculty members serenading the crowd, and a sumptuous lunch meal at the Administration Building.

SLUC GAD Focal Person, Ms. Cecilia S. Sanchez, organized various activities for both internal and external clients of the Campus. “Free coffee and snacks for Juan-a”, photo booths, lecturers and discussions were some of the activities conducted for the whole month of March.

The observance of March as a celebration of women’s role in history was declared in 1988 through Proclamation No. 227. In 2016, in his first State of the Nation Address, President Rodrigo Duterte directed “all agencies, oversight bodies, and local government units down to the barangay level to fully implement the Magna Carta of Women (MCW).” (Jesus Rafael B.
